Why Traditional Interviews
Fail You
You've been in the room. The candidate was polished, articulate, and said all the right things. Their resume was strong and the interview felt great, so you made the offer.
Three months later, you're wondering what went wrong, how did we miss what we are seeing.
Traditional interviews are designed to let candidates present their best selves. But the information you actually need is how they manage conflict, how they influence others, how they perform under pressure, whether they'll fit your culture. And all of this can be invisible in a standard interview format.
The Real Cost of a Bad Hire
A bad hire doesn't just cost money, estimated at 35% of total annual compensation, it costs team morale, productivity, client relationships, and your credibility as a leader. And the longer a bad hire stays, the more expensive and extensive the damage becomes.
The reality is that most hiring managers have never been trained in behavioral interviewing. They rely on gut feel, resume scanning, and unstructured conversations that tell them far more about a candidate's presentation skills than their actual leadership potential.
What Is the Candidate Insights Process?
Candidate Insights is One On One HR's hiring assessment process that puts an experienced behavioral interviewer and leadership assessment specialist on your interviewing team. We conduct structured behavioral interviews, administer leadership assessments (Conflict and Influencing profiles), and collaborate with you to connect our observations from the interview with the assessment results.
When you're evaluating multiple candidates, this process exposes concrete differences in leadership style, behavioral tendencies, and organizational fit that traditional interviews miss. You assess technical qualifications; we provide deep insight into leadership potential, cultural fit, and behavioral profile.
How It Works
1. You share the role requirements, team dynamics, and what success looks like for this hire
2. Each candidate completes two leadership assessments (Conflict and Influencing profiles)
3. One On One HR conducts a structured behavioral interview with each candidate
4. We analyze interview observations alongside assessment results
5. We collaborate with you to compare candidates and discuss findings
6. You make the hiring decision armed with insight you wouldn't have had otherwise
What You'll Gain
Objective behavioral data on every candidate, not just impressions
Clear comparison of candidates' leadership styles, conflict approaches, and influencing tendencies
Insight into cultural fit that traditional interviews can't reveal
Reduced risk of costly hiring mistakes
Confidence in your hiring decision backed by an expert assessment
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Behavioral interviewing is a structured interview technique based on the principle that past behavior is the best predictor of future performance. Instead of hypothetical questions, behavioral interviews ask candidates to describe specific situations they've handled, the actions they took, and the results they achieved.
-
Recruiting firms find candidates. Candidate Insights offers insight into candidates you've already identified. We don't source or recruit, we provide behavioral and leadership assessment expertise that helps you make a better hiring decision with the candidates in your pipeline.
-
Absolutely. The process is equally valuable for understanding internal candidates for promotion, especially into leadership roles where behavioral fit and leadership potential matter as much as technical capability.
-
The assessments take 20-30 minutes for the candidate to complete. The behavioral interview typically takes 30-45 minutes. The analysis will be completed within 24 hours of receiving the assessments and completing the interview, and the debrief will be conducted afterwards as soon as your team can be available. Throughout this process we operate with the highest urgency to repect your candidate’s availability and your hiring process.
